Strategy - designing the future

Strategic Analysis and Business Planning

Ergon Energy – Service Channels

Designed and facilitated strategic stakeholder consultation and then designed and facilitated targeted scenario and strategic planning with the management team.  Then designed a functionally realigned workforce and change management plan negotiating the incorporation of the new capability of influencing behavioural change in customers to reduce electricity load demand on assets.

Bremer Institute of TAFE

Conducted a business review, strategic alignment and restructured the Business Development Division of the Institute.  Developed the Change and Transition Plan for taking the Business Unit to the new functional alignment.

Redland Shire Council

Conducted a business review including functional analysis, job analysis & design, and resource cluster analysis and restructured the Indigiscapes Environmental Learning unit in line with organizational priorities.  Achieved more effective utilization of resources including paid employees and volunteers.

Western Milling

Developed and facilitated the first strategic planning retreat for the senior management team of the Queensland operations.  Achieved the development of the first 5 year strategic plan for the Queensland management team and an operational plan for the next three years.

Townsville City Council

Recognised survey overload from ad hoc surveying and engaged executive stakeholders including HR and Corporate Communications to consolidate several into the integrated Organisational Culture and Effectiveness surveys.

 

Workplace Planning and Role Definition

Gold Coast City Council

Created and conducted a strategic Job Analysis and Design protocol which engaged all division heads and other senior stakeholders in consultation to take the Training Manager role to one coordinating a new capability framework within Council and introducing a Learning Organization approach. 

Conducted a business unit review including capability profiling, restructure and realignment of the Organizational Learning Unit.   Designed the Learning Organization Strategy and framework including mapping the unit’s objectives through the Strategic and Operational plans for the first time.

Change Management

Ergon Energy Limited

Enterprise Transformation 2010 (ET2010) program:  Conducted senior stakeholder engagement to rebuild stakeholder commitment and understanding of the "Process Facilitation" operating model which was new for the business.  Translated stakeholder expectations into a change management plan incorporating Organization Development strategies to align with the Culture and Change Group's new direction. Provided coaching and support to change facilitators and project managers engaged on the various projects within the program.

Contestability of Customer Initiated Capital Works:  Designed and delivered change management, communications, consultancy, advice, strategies and training to the project taking a previously monopoly process to the market.  Engaged both the business and its most vocal and political customers in accepting a very contentious implementation.

Developed and conducted change management evaluation methodology, the results of which were provided to the Queensland Competition Authority as evidence of a successful implementation.

Zone Sub-Station and Sub Transmission Line Standardization:  Provided organizational change strategy and implementation for the standardization agenda as change manager for the projects.  Strategies included process facilitation for the end-to-end design and construct methodology with SMEs.  

Consistently managed the demands of two major change programs simultaneously whilst coaching the project managers and business improvement facilitators in change and stakeholder management processes, practices, principles and challenges.

Premier’s Department & Redland Shire Council

Designed, developed and delivered workshops in Managing Change & Transition for operational staff and at supervisor levels.

Origin Energy

Devised the change management approach including building in behavioural sustainability strategies in a Management Control System for the introduction of Integrated Planning as a foundation piece in the Operational Excellence implementation.

Facilitated the development of the first Benefits Realisation plan for the Business Improvement Group.


Framework Development and Evaluation
 

Department of Public Works – Whole of State Government

 

Designed a strategy to elicit innovative ideas from which the State Government could gain efficiencies and productivity through implementation.  Branded this Whole of State Government initiative “Dimensions” and the workshops “Ignite”. 

 

Designed and developed the Whole Of Government (WOG) change management and communication plan to engage public and private sectors under the state government’s Smart State initiative.  
Designed, delivered and evaluated the highly successful “Ignite” workshops engaging a representative sample from front line through to executive of State Government staff in eliciting innovative ideas.

 

Captured the ideas and common “themes” and reported these as a potential program of works presenting findings to the WOG funding committee. 

 

 

 

 

Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries

Facilitated a strategy development framework for eliciting and implementing innovation in the Department with senior staff.

Townsville City Council

Reviewed the operating model of the Change and Innovation program.  Conducted scenario planning with the Executive Management Team and proposed three operating models for the program.  Transitioned the program to a Stewardship framework and operating model to focus efforts on the long term viability and sustainability of council for its stakeholders. 

 

Devised a Rapid Improvement Event methodology and learner guide based on Lean methodology for driving efficiency and eliminating waste.

 

Researched and identified Prosci’s ADKAR change management methodology as appropriate to the low level of change management maturity of the organisation.

Gold Coast City Council

Arts Queensland

Designed, developed, delivered and evaluated a pilot Customer Satisfaction Survey to identify the specific areas of improvement following media focus on the agency.  Designed and facilitated stakeholder focus groups to determine a specific Arts Queensland model of client interaction.  Statistically analysed and validated the actual model and targeted the specific channels and strategies for improving customer relations.

Conducted the follow up survey implementing pilot recommendations and achieved high levels of the Art’s Community’s satisfaction with the survey design (face and construct validity) and delivery.

Corporate Administration Agency

Designed, developed and delivered a Cycle of Service intervention including process mapping, branding, communication and training materials to achieve the customer service framework “Magics” in customer service behaviours and drive CAA’s lead position as Queensland’s first shared services agency. 

Complete Office Supplies

Developed an intervention to embed a customer service culture through competency development, then facilitated the process of mapping the COS Cycles of Service, branding, communications and training towards achieving the vision of “World Class’ customer service.

Ergon Energy

Depot 3PR Project:  Developed the first Sustainability Plan for this key ET2010 initiative, the focus of which was to develop and embed a framework of systems and processes for sustaining productivity and efficiency in behavioural change.

Solutions - managing for success

Recruitment and Selection

Coca Cola Amatyl & Beilby Management Services

Trained internal Human Resource and management staff and clients in the effective and appropriate use of psychometric assessment – in particular GeneSys software.   

Ansett & Westpac

Provided assessment centre services for the Ansett Graduate Recruitment and Westpac middle management program to IPS Sydney.

Queensland Transport

Effectively provided advisory and support functions for Selection Panels for AO8 and Director level positions.

Pine Rivers Shire Council

Conducted the assessment and developed reports for the whole of the Pine Rivers management team as a component of the 2002 restructure.

Shared Information Solutions

Designed, developed and conducted a targeted / behavioural selection protocol to recruit 16 change facilitators.  Reviewed and upgraded the facilitator training material including change management tools and techniques

Trained and coached recruitment consultants in the use of psychometric assessment and behavioural interviewing techniques in the conduct of their assignments.

Secured and executed executive and operational level recruitment assignments ensuring the KSAs of the selected candidate supported the future direction of the client organisation.

Leadership and Talent Management

Boeing Australia Ltd

Profiled the capability of the Product Support Group’s leadership team of Boeing Australia Limited in order to prepare the team to transition the Group into broader commercial markets.  A full range of Leadership and Team behaviours were assessed utilizing development/assessment centre methods together with in-depth

Coached the leadership team through feedback and negotiation of individual, team and organizational level development plans and engaged the team in designing strategies to achieve the transition. Achieved significant improvements in the Leadership and Morale measures of the Boeing annual Climate Survey which had been in a 3 year decline.  

Pacific Brands – Dunlop Bedding, Berlie, Payless Shoes etc

Project managed the NSW component of Pacific Brands Nation-wide management development, succession planning initiative.  This involved assessing, career planning and coaching for 23 middle managers and executives and advising Pacific Brands HR staff on succession planning and retention strategies.

Byron Shire Council

Conducted training needs analysis and constructed a tailored Certificate IV in Frontline Management initiative to move staff to a continuous improvement culture.  Project managed the roll out across the whole of Council’s frontline staff and measured the achieved cultural change against Kirkpatrick Level IV (transfer of training) within the Australian Qualifications Framework. and the Australian Business Excellence Framework.


Team Building and Dispute Resolution

Office of Government ICT and Microsoft

Structured and facilitated stakeholder management workshops to engage senior / executive stakeholders from both organizations in the development of a Stakeholder Relationship charter.  Senior Stakeholders report a substantive turn around leading to mutually rewarding business outcomes.

Ergon Energy Limited

Designed and facilitated a risk management session in which a supplier and the company negotiated a strategy to mitigate the impact of faulty materials so that if failure of the asset were to occur a billion dollar customer would not be taken off line.  

Bremer Institute of TAFE

Developed and conducted a Leading Change and Transition workshop for the newly formed Organizational Capability Unit which effectively integrated the interpersonal relationships between the Human Resource and Innovation and Improvement units that until this intervention were effectively operating as two disparate units.

Energex

Co-designed and facilitated an executive stress retreat for the Government Liaison Team involved in high level crisis management and negotiations.  The team report greater resiliency through the strategies taught, even for their role which operates consistently under high pressure.

Conducted critical incident stress debriefing for the team following a period of substantial overload.  Coached the team through the development of a report and business case to provide risk management for escalating workloads.

 

 

Arup Brisbane

Designed and co-facilitated an environmental scan and strategy development to minimise the impacts of stress within the organisation undergoing unprecedented growth and challenged by a market in which human resources for their projects were scarce.

Provided mediation and conciliation services facilitating the achievement of sustainable solutions and coaching supervisors in conflict resolution and professional development strategies to prevent future occurrences.

Developed and delivered tailored Team Building workshops aligning the practical application of learning to organizational strategy and objectives.   Facilitated the development of working agreements, charters, individual and team strategies.

Queensland Transport

Sensitively conducted grievance investigation services, providing timely and efficient researching of relevant facts within Queensland Government and evidentiary requirements.  Supported staff on interpersonal issues seeking alternative dispute resolution.

Designed and delivered an action learning program to take a team of change facilitators through the mapping of their processes to the organisation’s project management approach and to achievement of the Advanced Diploma of Business (Human Resources) with a focus on Change Management.

Designed and delivered a three day Stakeholder Engagement workshop for the Customer Response and Improvement team which included a strong focus on Influencing with Integrity and Managing Challenging Behaviours.

Queensland Police Service

Developed an experiential (Action) learning and assessment protocol in change and strategic management, leadership and strategic human resource practices. Contributed substantially to achieving completion against their EBA by qualifying 37 experienced public sector employees in the Advanced Diploma of Government.

Beaudesert Shire Council

Project managed the WOB learning strategy implementing a Performance Coaching framework and mitigating Performance Appraisal Discomfort.  Designed, developed and delivered the competency based training and assessment for all staff including the Chief Executive. Evaluated the implementation and transfer of training through assessment of the units of competency Giving & Receiving Feedback (PSPGOV315A) and Manage Performance (PSPGOV519A).

Education Queensland & Queensland Rail

Project Managed the delivery and assessment of eight experiential learning Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Project Management training cohorts.   

Bremer TAFE

Scoped, designed and delivered a fully tailored Building Customer Service Capability training program for the Customer Service and Library Services team. Measured “Compliance” in behavioural assessments (Kirkpatrick Level 4), AQF Certificate IV and Diploma competency.  The client reported substantial improvements in performance, morale and team work.

TNT Logistics (National)

Scoped and developed a fully tailored time/priority management workshop to standardize client management practices across the business. Incorporated project management methodology, providing a framework /  code of practice for the management of key issues.

Corporate Administration Agency

  Developed and delivered a report writing workshop assisting a group of engineers to achieve influence and greater reader engagement with a readership who were dissatisfied with this team’s tone and style.

Career Management

Gold Coast City Council & Redland Shire Council

Designed and delivered Career Development and Coaching programs and trained the senior HR team at the Gold Coast and the Information Technology team supervisors at Redland in Partnering (coaching) in Career Development to prepare their staff for navigating careers during structural change.

BHP Refractories Newcastle NSW

Successfully project managed the career transitioning of staff into different and external roles whilst maintaining their productivity until the closure of the plant.  Engaged the community in supporting the workers in their transition and developed the employee career transition model that was utilised by the Steelworks through its closure.

Uniting Healthcare

Managed the career transition project and communication strategy for the closure of a St Aubyn’s Hospital, Kingaroy, hiring and supervising organisational psychologists and community liaison and support staff.

Facilitated the development of a change management plan designed to resolve logistics issues that impacted the business unit’s effectiveness and productivity.  Coached the senior managers in stakeholder engagement gaining organisational commitment through its implementation.


Community of Practice

Ergon Energy Limited

Established a community of practice for over 26 change and project managers, HR and corporate communications representatives engaged on the 20 current of over 100 programmed cultural, structural, ICT and process projects. Chartered the community to integrate change and manage impacts and dependencies across the business.

Department Further Education Science Technology

Project managed a Community of Practice engaging learning and development professionals from across Queensland Government in finding solutions for improving completion rates for government qualifications.

Townsville City Council

Established bench strength culture change capability through a Community of Practice including the selection and training of 23 Business Improvement Coaches, achieving consistency in business unit response plans and feedback to the program Steering Committee (executive).
